Happy Christmas to all our students and their families

The Start of Year Mass and the Blessing and Official Opening of our New Building took place on October 6th. Mass was celebrated by Most Rev. Bishop Denis Brennan and our school Chaplin Rev. Tom Dalton and the ribbon was cut by Nicola Curran, one of our own students and Bishop Brennan. It was a wonderful occasion and our new building, consisting of the Sports Hall, two Science laboratories, Computer room and four classrooms, is in full use and much appreciated.

The sports hall is available for evening hire to clubs and activity groups. For further information on availability please ring 087 7447575.

Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, performed in the school Concert Hall by Oyster Lane Theatre Company in conjunction with Presentation School was a wonderful success. It ran for five nights during Festival time and was a sell out. Congratulations to all involved.
Also congratulations to Katie Ryan First Year who was placed first in the associated Poster competition and whose drawing formed the cover of the programme.

SPORT

Basketball

The Senior D basketball team have recently played their last league game. They had a well deserved win after a season of dedicated training.

The 2nd year basketball D team have been training since September for the league which starts in January. They have played one practice match in which they displayed some impressive skills and teamwork.

The 1st year players have just started training in preparation for their matches after Christmas.
The Senior C basketball played five matches. The girls fought hard to hold the opposition. It took the last match before the swan song could be heard, which made the victory even sweeter. Thank you to the girls who represented the school for the last time.
Basketball Referee Course

Some of the students will have the opportunity on 19th and 29th December to attend an intensive twelve-hour course on how to become a basketball referee. It is hoped that in time they will become certified to referee matches in the future.
Hockey

The school hockey club has teams at Junior B (u-16), Minor B (2nd year) and 1st year level. Training has been taking place on Mondays and Tuesdays since September. Additional training has taken place at Loreto hockey pitch one evening a week or on Saturday mornings. All teams are competing well. While the Junior B has struggled with numbers, they have been ably assisted by the 2nd years. The Minor B’s have some very talented players and have been very unlucky to draw two matches. The 1st year players show great fitness, skill and promise and have been very competitive in their games.

Good luck to all players in the rest of their matches. Training will continue for the first half of the term in the New Year.
Gaelic Football U 16

This season great talents and performances were on display. Good offensive play, solid defence and a large pitch with plenty of running is the type of game that suits the Presentation girls. With a win, a draw and a loss under their belts it is now down to goal aggregate to decide if the school has advanced to the play-offs. Fingers crossed!

Camogie

Senior C competed in the Leinster Schools Competition. Their first outing was against St. Mary’s, New Ross, which after a very competitive game was won by St. Mary’s by a goal scored in the final moments. Their next game was against Gorey Community School and although Presentation played hard throughout the match, Gorey were the eventual winners.

Voluntary Contribution

Families who have overlooked or have forgotten to pay the voluntary contribution are asked to do so as soon as possible. Students will be reminded between now and early February and a final due date will be set in February before the final accounts for the year are prepared. The costs of running the school to the high standard of facilities and hygiene that our students enjoy are enormous and the financial support of all families is essential to maintain these standards. In the spirit of fairness to all, all families are asked to contribute.

Supervised Study

This takes place in the school for students Monday to Friday – details from Mr. Gilshinan. Saturday study along with Mid-term and Easter study for exam students, takes place also in the school –details from Ms Cogley.

Regular supervised study keeps students organised and on top of the work and is recommended from second year onwards.

Every blessing on all families for Christmas and the New Year from all staff at the school.
