Transition Year

The first week back after Easter the students enjoyed a Car Safety Workshop. The Mini-Company groups Slice of Heaven and Blank Canvas represented the school at the County Enterprise finals. Slice of Heaven won an award for “Best Interview”. Congratulations to all involved.
The girls gained a valuable insight into the area of “Respect” through drama, in a workshop with the Gaiety School of Acting. Students explored their more creative side with a Flower Arranging Workshop, given by Ingrid from Slaney Flowers.
The girls had a Thursday morning in Leisuremax where they had great fun bowling. Eanna Ni Lamhna provided the girls with an Envoirmental Workshop in Curracloe.
Tommy Redmond returned to refresh the girl’s memories on their drugs awareness learning’s. He assisted them in putting together a presentation on what they had learned for all the third years in the school.
Students had great fun with a unique fashion show, where they designed, created and modeled outfits made from minimal materials.
The girls will participate in two dance workshops before the end of the year. Local artist Emma Byrne will visit the TY’s in May to share her experiences and provide them with a workshop. On May 22 TY students will be honored for their achievements over the year at their awards night.

English Fiction Library

We are delighted to report the return of an outstanding library book – after thirty years! A past pupil found this when she was cleaning out her house and kindly sent it back with apologies for any inconvenience. Hope this encourages others to return all books – hopefully a bit sooner!!

Sport

Basketball

Both the 1 and 2 year ‘C’ basketball teams were unbeaten in their groups and both progressed to the quarter final stage of the competition. The 1 years made their exit from the competition at the expense of a physically strong FJC Bunclody side. The 2 years eased through their quarter final and faced Loreto Wexford in the semi. The semi-final was a very close fought affair and the lead changed hands throughout the match with both teams playing some excellent basketball. In the closing stages the Presentation girls came from a basket down to defeat our near neighbours by three points and book their place in the final.

The girls took on a very determined Presentation Clonmel in the final, with the Tipperary side being the eventual winners. Both teams did themselves and the school very proud with their achievements and commitment to training and we look forward to next years competitions.

The 1 year team were given a walkover in the semi-final and played Comeragh College, Tipperary in the final. They played some very good basketball in the final but unfortunately lost on this occasion.
The 2 year team played C.B.S., New Ross in the semi-final. This was an exciting game from start to finish which the girls won by a mere one point. In the final the girls played New Ross V.C. but lost the game on the day.

U-14 Gaelic Football

The gaelic football team qualified from the Wexford group and progressed to the Leinster knock-out stages. In the first round they travelled to play Loreto Kilkenny. On the day the Maguire twins from the North, who have been making headlines over the past two years won the prestigious event with Emma and Tara finishing a very impressive 4. Well done to both girls on their achievements.

Learning Support/Resource Department
Students who attend Learning Support and Resource teaching in our school have had a very busy year. Skills have been strengthened, many books read and reviewed and stories written. Those preparing for exams have done some solid revision and we wish them the best of luck in the Junior and Leaving Cert examinations. We hope their hard work pays off. Students who attend Learning Support and Resource groups are a happy group of students who have gained both skills and confidence over the year and have had fun learning too.
